Deep in the village
of Micanopy stands the old Gainesville & Gulf depot. Very hard to find, I finally
received instructions from the friendly man at the Micanopy Historical Museum
in the old ACL warehouse on the other side of town.
I doubt I could
find it again without help.
You can still see
the old loading doors which had been covered up. A siding for loading was
located here.
On the left is a
short access road to the small baseball field, little do they know that they
are treading on history as below their feet are the old cypress ties of the
Gainesville & Gulf Railroad, see the photo below.
